How to Teach Effective Communication

Communication is beyond speaking words or listening quietly. Effective communication is being able to understand and build on each other. Teaching effective communication to kids can be challenging, but with patience, understanding, and a reasonable curriculum, they will be able to express themselves, understand one another, and contribute for the better.

A solid way to start teaching communication is by showing empathy. Only when we truly understand each other will we be able to connect. As children are exposed to what others are feeling they begin to develop the understanding needed to connect.

When teaching communication at the start, the teacher or the parent can set some rules to facilitate learning. For example, the children should not interrupt another peer when it is their turn to speak. The child should learn to hold on to their thought and wait for their time to speak.

It is also important to learn about kind and polite words. Parents and teachers should be able to demonstrate such support and understanding in the eyes of the children. A respectful vocabulary is built upon continuous exposure and practice from all stakeholders. This aspect is important for our childcare in Odessa, Texas.
